Very similar laptop tables

vittsjö, laptoptable

Image from Ikea

Above is the Vittsjö laptop table from Ikea. Perfect to use when you sit in a sofa or similar.
USD 24.99 or SEK199. I’ve been considering on and off if to get one or not. Hate having the MacBookPro or the iPad on my knees. Ikea has had this laptop table for quite some time.

The other day I visited MIO furniture shop to see what new they have got this autumn and to collect their new brochure. And the first thing I see is their laptop table…

Does it look similar? Definitely does. Price at MIO is SEK 595 (approximately USD 84) for the one called Lucy. Can be had in white or black. When I entered the shop they had these three boxes out in the shop, when I left they were all gone… Popular table… You can also get a simpler model all in black. That one is SEK 249 (approximately USD 35) and called Juno. Only available in black. Also seemed popular because all boxes with it were gone too…

Tabletops are glass except for the last and cheapest one in black.

Seems to be a popular model. Wonder how many more there are in other furniture chains shops that also look like this… I like the white one with shiny legs the best. Of course it is also the most expensive of these.

Who got inspired by who?

This is one of Ikeas new doors for Bestå, named Laxviken.

The one below I happened to see at Norrgavel yesterday and thought I recognized it…

So, who got inspired by who? To my eyes this 3D-pattern on the doors are very similar.

High cabinets with glassdoors

HEMNES from Ikea

There are a lot of high cabinets with glass doors out there presently. To my eyes they look very similar. Visually at least, and if you do not look too close on details and quality. But similar they are.

The above, which is the cheapest, is HEMNES from ikea, white stained. USD 320. Also available in brownish-black.

LIATORP from Ikea.

LIATORP from Ikea.

LIATORP from Ikea.

Then there is LIATORP, also from Ikea. In white or grey. USD499.

If you want something more luxurious there is this in white or grafit grey (or birch wood) from Norrgavel. Price? Depends on choices like top and legs and shelves, but around minimum approximately SEK 16.000 (approximately USD 2.300). Norrgavel has really nice things with excellent finish, but they are expensive. I have never afforded buying anything from them…

Question is, is it worth it to buy the more expensive one, or will the cheaper Ikea models do? Visually the differences aren’t all that big…

Approved by Gustav

bedroom. pillows

Made a small change in the bedroom. Dug out an old bedspread and changed the size of it to suit the bed. Also made a new pillow-case of the cloth that was left after sewing the door-curtain some time ago and changed the covers of the other pillows.

Still need to fix the walls (paint them and remove the decoration behind the bedframe). As I’ve said so many times, I really don’t like that green color.

But Gustav approved of the new-old bedspread and pillows.

Trendy Danish Cheramics

globo

Globo

I love ceramics. Only problem is to bring it home when on travel (size and fragility) and the price when you find something you really like. Designer ceramics do not come cheap…

One of my favorite ceramics firms is the danish firm Kähler. I recently spotted their new items at the site called Trendspanarna and borrowed some images from there. The ones they initially got famous for here in Sweden was the Omaggio striped ceramics, originally vases in various sizes, now new striped items. Really love it.

That butter-box is SO nice.

I’d love to have these light-houses… and add them to my small collection of 3 light-houses in tin that I have in the livingroom. At least one of them…

These Globo candle holders really talk to me… That simple form is fantastic in its simplicity. Just wish I could afford getting one of those for four candles. The big one below for instance.

A sculpture in Alby by Tarek Zaki

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014 by iPhone 5S

Every time I get off the bus from Tumba at Albyvägen to go to ICA MAXI for my weekly grocery shopping, I see this concrete sculpture in the grass, not far from the bus station. Love it. I’ve always been fascinated by this kind of sculpture with simple forms and expression. Have been intending to take a photo of it all summer and the other day I finally did. It looks like an extra little village beside the regular houses.

Looked for a plaque or something about it but couldn’t find any. So googled and found that the artist is Egyptian Tarek Zaki. Tarek Zaki was born in 1975 and lives and works in Cairo. The sculpture was inaugurated at the beginning of June 2014. It just sits there in the grass and is very anonymous. Will bring my regular camera and take more photos one of these days. Interestingly enough there is no graffiti on it, yet. I hope it will stay like that.

Expedit x 2

expedit

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

When I made space for a chair in the bedroom I had to move the smallest Expedit* to another spot. I’d had thought that it would work here, by the livingroom window as it worked having it in front of the window in the bedroom. But it was no good at all here. Probably because the windowsill is double-size here. I was not happy at all with this solution. Looked like a furniture storage place with everything on top of each other…

expedit

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Only thing it was good for was to tuck away that stuff that all the time go in and out the door to the outside place this time of the year. And to place the huge monstera on. Some rethinking was needed. And measuring. For a while there I even considered to throw out (or sell) the monstera so I could move the chaise-lounge closer to the window and the light.

This is how it was placed before I made space for a chair in the bedroom.

expedit

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

So what did I do with the small Expedit*? Turned out it could live on top of the larger Expedit*. So there it went.

expedit

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Up it went. And I think it looks good there as it is almost the same height as the oak-veneer wardrobes with shiny white doors to the left. Right? As the door is  a sliding-door, it goes right behind the two Expedit and gives them a white background. That the Expedit* on top is shiny white and the one at the bottom is non-shiny doesn’t really matter. Did some reorganizing of the content in the Expedits and still have one slot that is empty.

The chair in the bedroom still has its place.

expedit

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

*) Expedit by Ikea has been remodeled and renamed and is now called Kallax. Some measures differ between the old Expedit and the new Kallax.

New iron

Photo:©nini.tjader.2014

This was my old iron. It jumped onto the floor too many times though…

iron, bosch

©nini.tjader.2014

Finally it broke. With a handle with split like that… no choice but to buy a new iron. Buying irons is among the most boring things I like to shop… the task of ironing is even more boring.

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

This is my new iron. Also a Bosch as my old one served me very well for many years. Now I have no excuse any more for not ironing… Even the weather has turned and is now cooler. It really IS unbearable to iron when the temperature is around +30°C.

Oiled oak

oiled oak, kitchentable

Photo:©nini.tjader.2014

This is my kitchen table. It has now been cleaned, then oiled, and has dried and is ready for use again. The table is white oiled, which means that it has white pigment in the oil.

The table is SKAGEN from Bolia. I’ve had it since the summer of 2009, shortly before I moved to my present flat. Solid, white-oiled oak. Monica (my then neighbor and friend) bought the same table before I did. She also bought the extensions for it. The extensions – 50 cms – only come in 2-pack. I later bought one of them from her and use it at the window-end of the table.

I love this table. It is simple and utilitarian. And I much prefer the white-oiled oak to the darker ones.

Photo: ©nini.tjder.2014

Table looks all new when this is done. I’ve postponed it for a long time as the downside of doing it that you cannot use the table for 24 hours after oiling it. The treatment is necessary to do regularly to prevent the wood from drying out.

Remains to do the same to the sofa-table in the livingroom.

New chair in the hallway

chair, holmsel, ikea

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Finally bought the chair HOLMSEL from Ikea, in black, for the hallway. The black and white pillow to sit on I had before. I think that one also was from Ikea.

It looks so much nicer with this chair here than the former one. It is also slightly smaller, which is good in my tiny hallway.

Holmsel, chair

Photo:©nini.tjader.2014

So what did I do with the previous chair?

After some moving around of the smallest Expedit bookcase into the livingroom, I got some space in the bedroom for the older chair from the hallway. I always wanted a chair in the bedroom but previously didn’t have the space for it.

chair, agen, ikea

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

I’ve had this chair for many years. It is Ikeas AGEN. The cover for the pillow is a DIY by me. The color of the chair goes so much better with the Malm chest of drawers (in oak veneer – nowadays can only be had in white stained oak veneer) beside it than with the furniture in the hallway. This chair was bought to stand beside it in my previous hallway in my previous flat. The black high pallet is just placed there temporarily. Or, when autumn and cold weather comes, it might get one of the now outside plants on it. Not enough light there though.

The old Macintosh there is the first model Intel iMac 20″. It is collecting dust in the bedroom and seldom on. Only there in case I would like to see a dvd in the bedroom or for the use of old software that cannot be used with today’s operating system.

TBT Freehand

freehand

Freehand 4.0 T-shirt. Photo: ©nini.tjader

(TBT Throw Back Thursday) Once upon a time when I first learned to use a vector application for drawing, it was Aldus Freehand that I started out with. In my former life I taught software applications to customers. Freehand was one of them. I even recorded a two-part video about Macromedia Freehand 5.0/5.5 for a education company. Those videos were around for quite some time long after Freehand had more or less disappeared.

freehand

Freehand 5.0/5.5 video. Photo: ©nini.tjader

This was around the time when every software company regularly gave out T-shirts in seminars you attended. They were always size L or XL or even XXL. Perfect nighties, but not T-shirts for a smallish person like me. I still have the old Freehand 4.0 T-shirt… And the old videos (on VHS). If nothing else, it is fun watching oneself teaching…

Eventually I had to switch to Adobe Illustrator as Freehand disappeared from the Swedish market. Later Aldus products got first bought by Macromedia and then Freehand was bought by Adobe and in the end Freehand was discontinued in favor of adobe Illustrator. We were many that were sorry about that. There are still several features that Freehand had that to this day has not turned up in Adobe Illustrator. To easily create text on a circle at both top and bottom is just one of those…

Nowadays I am one of the testers of the Illustrator WOW! books for each version. Today I am at home in Illustrator but I still miss some of those smart features that Freehand had and Illustrator still doesn’t…

Life Outside

out_2

It has been an unusually warm (around +28°C), dry and sunny period for more than a week. That means, I spend most of my time outside, and not in front of the computer. You never know how long these warm and sunny periods will last. Can end any time… Today is grey and overcast, but still warm. Rain has been promised. I actually hope rain will come as everything growing is very dry. Would be nice not to have to water everything for a change…

The patio is 2 x 4 meters in size and is just outside my livingroom.

out_3

My black bench. Needs some love and attention and repair of the black color. Just need to buy the color… The old bucket I used last year had turned the paint into some almost hard gel-like consistence. Time for new paint.

outOn the other hand, you don’t see that the color is off when the cushions are on. I love to sit here and read. This corner is under “roof”, that is, under my upstairs neighbors balcony, so you are pretty safe from rain at this spot. Cushions go inside nights to protect them from the neighborhood cats. This place has afternoon and evening sun.

out_1

The leaning tree, a non-fertile appletree, probably got there from a seed from an eaten apple that someone threw over the fence long ago… It gives perfect protection from the sun (I do have an umbrella too if more protection is needed). I cut the tree on the inside and at the top every year to keep it in shape. This year it had become the right size to hang the suncharged lamp in.

out_8

Small table and two chairs are also on my outside place. Nice place for having breakfast or eating or having a coffee…when the weather permits.

out_5

At the other end of the patio, is my pelargonia wall + some other plants.

out_6

And an Ikea black plastic chair.

out

Under this chair lives the garden hose.

When I tire of being at the patio, I go out on the lawn to the sunbed. The patio can get a bit too warm sometimes.

out_9

As you might have noticed, most of my outside furniture are black and white, except for the cushions for the bench. All furniture are from Ikea.

Things change…

poppy

Photo:©nini.tjader.2014

Like my wild poppies in the flowerbed, things change. Now the blog-challenge called Blogg 100, has come to its end. This is post number 100 out of 100 in just as many days in a row. And I made it all the way to the goal. Both in this blog and in my swedish blog. That makes 200 posts…

Of course I will keep on blogging after the challenge is now over, as I’ve done since…. when?  I started 2001. Then in a sub-area to my own website, which came alive on September 11th, 2001. Exactly that day…it just happened that way. After one post in 2001 I paused until 2004, wrote some in 2005. 2006 I wrote nothing. Then I wrote some posts in 2007 and 2008. 2009 was a lost year again. 2010 I was back again. And I have been back ever since. My swedish blog started in 2011.

But one post a day? Only during this blog-challenge.

I will not be writing a post a day from now on, but probably more frequently than before the Blogg 100 challenge. Sometimes it might even be more than one post a day, but that would be an exception.

I hope you will still pop in and read. It would also be nice with some comments now and then… ;).

My poppies in the flowerbed were changed by nature, not by manipulation with Photoshop or so. The poppies have spread and in doing so wandered to another flowerbed. There they suddenly became red instead of orange. I like it. I guess it has to do with the quality of the soil influencing on the color of the flower. This flowerbed is also the one with most sun.

Hungry birds

woodpecker

It is summer. The birds should be able to find food themselves, right? But, they all have little ones and they are hungry. So I give them special peanuts for birds. They love the peanuts. Both the woodpeckers (I have three of them regularly feeding here, they look slightly different when compared, and I’ve seen at least two of them at the same time), and the nuthatch couple which I saw also the entire winter. The nuthatch always eats upside-down.

nuthatch nuthatcher

These two kinds of birds make all the smaller birds stay in the nearby tree when they eat and the small ones, like the great tits, only get to eat when the other ones are away. Sometimes several at the same time. Feeding them the year around makes them stay in the garden. And they also eat all kinds of insects and bugs and larvae so you get less of those on the plants.

great tits

These were the ones I managed to take pictures of today. I also have blue tits and several other kinds of birds coming. Only problem is that it is hard to find the peanuts for birds during the summer. Ordered more today from a place I’ve never ordered from before and hope it will come fast as I’m almost out of peanuts by now.

It is fun watching the interaction between the birds at the feeders. The woodpeckers always announce when they are nearby and on inflight. You cannot miss that they are coming. They even keep on making noise when eating.

Hallway chair

chair, hallway

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

I have this chair just inside the door when you enter my flat. It is used to sit on to put shoes on or off. You can of course also sit on the bench to the left, but the chair is more comfortable. Also, there is often other stuff on the bench… I’ve had this chair for quite some time and have been thinking of exchanging it for something that suits this corner better. Maybe this one?

chair, hallway, holmsel

Ikea has this nice, small, light, and surprisingly comfortable chair (called Holmsel). And it is black and would suit this corner very well both in size and color.

I like it. Should I buy it?
(Question is, what do I do with the old chair? Give it away for free? Sell it?).
