Livingroom yellow

This image at the stylizimoblog.com caught my eye in June 2014. So I pinned it onto one of my Pinterestboards. Ever since visitors to that board has kept on re-pinning the image.

The image comes from the Stylizimoblog, which I visit more or less daily. The original page/post is here. The blogger has since sold that house and moved into a new, quite fantastic house (in Norway). She is just starting to release pictures from it now on her blog. That house is really something…

So, what is it with this image and this livingroom that draws people? For me it was the almost exclusively black-white-grey way of furnishing and decorating. Plus the one color addition to that, here yellow (could have been any color, but here it happened to be yellow). The room is airy, light, calm and inviting.

There is nothing very fancy about the furniture. It is a regular Ikea-sofa (Karlstad), a regular Ikea sofa-table (as far as I can judge) plus a designer rocking-chair, a designer table (the small black one with a handle). There is a byLassen candle holder and a Kähler vase on the sofa-table. The floor-lamp I have also seen somewhere but don’t remember the make. The carpet is not Ikea, but similar to one they have.

What catches the eye I think is the light and airiness and the calm atmosphere. I too like to look at this room, just as my visitors on that Pinterest board apparently seem to do as hey keep on re-pinning the image. Almost every day someone re-pinned the image.

Two pallets/stools

pallets, pallet, poke-stool

The poke-stool at the Modea.com site.

I love pallets/stools.

These caught my eye recently. They are smart, colorful, decorative. The above ones are expensive though. USD 689 for a set of three. Called poke-stool. A link from the modea.com site takes me to this place where they apparently can be bought and mor information is given. But I love the visual impression of them. And the smart way to put them together.

Ryssby stool from Ikea.

Then there are the Ikea RYSSBY pallets/stools. Temporary collection. So far un-available at my closest Ikea. SEK349/USD59. Available in red, green, black and natural wood. If they ever become “available”… I’d love to have one, in black or red. (As if I didn’t have enough pallets already…).

Finally got it up

grundtal, ikea, toolbar, kitchen

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

This is GRUNDTAL from Ikea. I’ve had it for quite some time, laying around, collecting dust in the kitchen. I even bought a special drill to make the holes on the wall in the tiles (as the measures for the rail and the tiles do not add up to be able to make the holes between the tiles).

The other day, I finally made the 4 holes and put it up. Feels good. Yet another JDI (Jus Do It) task now done. This is the shortest model of the rail. Cheap. Useful. You get rid of the brushes and such from behind the tap, which makes it so much easier to keep it clean there. Need to find a new bottle-brush though. I really do not want it to be pink…

Office-chairs, part VIII

officechair

Roberget from Ikea Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Finally! On Monday Ikea had 4 Roberget office-chairs in stock (SEK799/USD 89.99). Now one of them is mine. It is turquoise, to get some color into the office-corner in my flat. It was not un-problematic to get it home as I didn’t have access to a car and had to transport it on the busses. Legs and wheels were not mounted of course. I made it home with the chair.

offichair

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Finally I sit comfortably with the right back-support. It is supposed to come in dark grey too, but so far Ikea has not had that one in stock. I prefer the turquoise one though.

I love the form of this metal-chair. The thoughts of the designers about it as stated on Ikea’s pages is:

Designers thought
“When we designed ROBERGET swivel chair we wanted it to be as strikingly good-looking as it is comfortable. We were inspired by public spaces and workspaces of the 1880s to the 1920s. Places like farms, factories, schools and hospitals. By combining color, shapes and finish we were able to balance a vintage feeling with a distinctive modern twist. The chair will look great not only at your desk – but anywhere in your home.”
Designers Lycke von Schantz and Marcus Arvonen

I think they have succeded.

officechair

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

It is a bit cold though and needs something to sit on. It got my black sheep-skin for warmth and softness. Feels good.

Remains to get rid of the Skruvsta chair which is not a comfortable office-chair unless you only sit there for 5-10 minutes… Thought it was comfortable when I bought it and it is a nice enough chair, but… Anybody interested in buying it? Contact me.

Office-chairs continued

office-chair, chair, roberget

Photo: @nini.tjader.2014

Yesterday when I visited Ikea they had finally got one of the new office-chairs assembled so you could test-sit it. So I did. Test sit in it…

I WANT that chair.

roberget, office-chair, chair, ikea

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

It is REALLY comfortable. Just need a cushion to sit on or it feels too cold.

roberget, office-chair, chair, ikea

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

I think I’ve said it before, when I first spotted this chair: it has an air of Bauhaus/Art Deco about it which I love.

roberget, office-chair, chair ikea

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

The office-chair is called ROBERGET and comes from Ikea. SEK 799/USD 89.99. Apart from the turquoise color, it also comes in dark-grey. But they didn’t have that on show. They have six (6) turquoise ones in store at this very moment in my closest Ikea store when I write this. None of the dark-grey ones. It is the turquoise one I want though. It is fun to have color at least on some things at home.

I would get too many office-chairs if I buy this one… What to do with the present one? Or the very temporary one in red plastic which I had for a short while before that and now is place close by the office corner for use when there is a 2nd viewer in front of the iMac?

Ceramic or glass vases?

stain, oak

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

This – above – is what happens if you put a ceramic vase with flowers and water in directly on a white-oiled oak-table and leave it there for a couple of days. (I guess it happens if you do the same onto any other wooden table or surface – and I know by experience that the same thing can happen if you put a decorative Halloween pumpkin on the table…). This stain is what remains AFTER sanding the stain and re-oiling the spot. It won’t go away… Ceramic vases leak humidity that destroys the wood they stand on.

Not to repeat that, I looked for small glass-vases and found these ones:

vases, glassvases

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

3-pack glassvases from RUSTA in different shades of blue and green with different structure on each vase for a total of SEK 20 (approximately USD 2.80)! Perfect. Here they are filled with drying lavender, but their purpose is to put small flowers in water on the table (with dry flowers it doesn’t matter which kind of vase you use). That they are cheap and come from a store that sell cheap things is fine with me. Even cheap can be beautiful sometimes.

Objects don’t need to be expensive designer items to be nice.

vases, glassvases,

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

The small blue bowl is there to collect the drying lavender seeds when they fall off their stems.

vases

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

So, which vase leaked? One of these below, from Ikea (flower in the picture is artificial). If you look at the bottom of a ceramic vase and see that the bottom of it is not glazed, then you can expect it to leak if you put water in it.

Sideboards with wheels

sideboard with wheels, sideboard, sofatable, mio

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

I like sideboards with wheels. Unfortunately I don’t have the space for one in my smallish flat. If I had, the above one from MIO would be a contender, 53 cm diameter. SEK 795 (approximately USD 110). Comes with either white or clear glass surface.

sideboard with wheels, sideboard, sofatable, ikea, strind

STRIND, sideboard with wheels. Image borrowed from IKEA

IKEA has a similar one called STRIND, with white glass surface. Thinner wheels. No hand-rail. SEK 799 (USD 69.99) for the one with a 50 cm diameter. They also have a bigger one. 75 cm diameter, for SEK 995 (USD 99.99).

The one from MIO looks more elegant to my eyes. And, as it has wheels, it is good to have something to drag it around with. The Ikea-model doesn’t have that.

In both cases, not that suitable for a family with small kids, dogs, cats… it is much too easy to knock off the glass surface from below the glass. But for the rest of us, nice tables. Personally, I would choose the one from MIO.

Office-chairs again…

officechair

Image from Ikea Live.

Yes, I know, I solved my office-chair situation and actually bought a chair after having been cheated of the one I ordered and got the money back from the bank too (as I had paid by credicard).

Then IKEA announces this one above. Röberget, SEK799. I really like it. It has some artdeco/bauhaus-like impression. If it is comfortable remains to be seen. It wont be in the Swedish stores until some time in October. Then I’ll go there and sit in it.

Very similar laptop tables

vittsjö, laptoptable

Image from Ikea

Above is the Vittsjö laptop table from Ikea. Perfect to use when you sit in a sofa or similar.
USD 24.99 or SEK199. I’ve been considering on and off if to get one or not. Hate having the MacBookPro or the iPad on my knees. Ikea has had this laptop table for quite some time.

vittsjö, laptoptable

The other day I visited MIO furniture shop to see what new they have got this autumn and to collect their new brochure. And the first thing I see is their laptop table…

Photo: ©nini.tjader.12014

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Does it look similar? Definitely does. Price at MIO is SEK 595 (approximately USD 84) for the one called Lucy. Can be had in white or black. When I entered the shop they had these three boxes out in the shop, when I left they were all gone… Popular table… You can also get a simpler model all in black. That one is SEK 249 (approximately USD 35) and called Juno. Only available in black. Also seemed popular because all boxes with it were gone too…

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Tabletops are glass except for the last and cheapest one in black.

Seems to be a popular model. Wonder how many more there are in other furniture chains shops that also look like this… I like the white one with shiny legs the best. Of course it is also the most expensive of these.

Who got inspired by who?

besta-laxviken-door__0283611_PE421055_S4

Picture from Ikea

This is one of Ikeas new doors for Bestå, named Laxviken.

The one below I happened to see at Norrgavel yesterday and thought I recognized it…

So, who got inspired by who? To my eyes this 3D-pattern on the doors are very similar.

High cabinets with glassdoors

hemnes-vitrinskap__0259691_PE404100_S4

HEMNES from Ikea

There are a lot of high cabinets with glass doors out there presently. To my eyes they look very similar. Visually at least, and if you do not look too close on details and quality. But similar they are.

The above, which is the cheapest, is HEMNES from ikea, white stained. USD 320. Also available in brownish-black.

liatorp-vitrinskap__0281085_PE419740_S4

LIATORP from Ikea.

LIATORP from Ikea.

LIATORP from Ikea.

Then there is LIATORP, also from Ikea. In white or grey. USD499.

If you want something more luxurious there is this in white or grafit grey (or birch wood) from Norrgavel. Price? Depends on choices like top and legs and shelves, but around minimum approximately SEK 16.000 (approximately USD 2.300). Norrgavel has really nice things with excellent finish, but they are expensive. I have never afforded buying anything from them…

Question is, is it worth it to buy the more expensive one, or will the cheaper Ikea models do? Visually the differences aren’t all that big…

New chair in the hallway

chair, holmsel, ikea

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Finally bought the chair HOLMSEL from Ikea, in black, for the hallway. The black and white pillow to sit on I had before. I think that one also was from Ikea.

It looks so much nicer with this chair here than the former one. It is also slightly smaller, which is good in my tiny hallway.

Holmsel, chair

Photo:©nini.tjader.2014

So what did I do with the previous chair?

After some moving around of the smallest Expedit bookcase into the livingroom, I got some space in the bedroom for the older chair from the hallway. I always wanted a chair in the bedroom but previously didn’t have the space for it.

chair, agen, ikea

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

I’ve had this chair for many years. It is Ikeas AGEN. The cover for the pillow is a DIY by me. The color of the chair goes so much better with the Malm chest of drawers (in oak veneer – nowadays can only be had in white stained oak veneer) beside it than with the furniture in the hallway. This chair was bought to stand beside it in my previous hallway in my previous flat. The black high pallet is just placed there temporarily. Or, when autumn and cold weather comes, it might get one of the now outside plants on it. Not enough light there though.

The old Macintosh there is the first model Intel iMac 20″. It is collecting dust in the bedroom and seldom on. Only there in case I would like to see a dvd in the bedroom or for the use of old software that cannot be used with today’s operating system.

The Office-Chair, part VII

officechair, skruvsta

Skruvsta office-chair from Ikea. Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

As I got an email that the ordered chair will not be delivered, I went ahead and bought the SKRUVSTA office chair from Ikea. In grey (which doesn’t seem to exist in the U.S). The temporary chair is nearby in the kitchen and can be used if/when yet another person will join me in front of the iMac. Now I sit comfortably. This corner is now even more grey than it used to be :).

On June 19th i got the following email from the company where I ordered my office-chair, confirming that there will be no delivery of the ordered chair:

—Quote—

Dear INFURN customer,

further to our last email to all INFURN customers, we regret to inform you that the website has now stopped trading. After numerous attempts to secure the required funds to keep the site running, it has been impossible for the new operator DSGN to continue the business. It has therefore been decided, with the advice of the appointed adviser to the Group, UHY Hacker Young LLP, that all operations are to be suspended.

If you had an order with any of our companies, and it has not been delivered yet, partially or at all, you will be contacted by new insolvency administrators, which are to be announced soon, responsible for winding up of respective company with which you placed your order.

As all companies have stopped trading with immediate effect, we are unable to provide you with any service support.

We apologise for the disruption this may cause to you, and we are really sorry that we are unable to fulfil your order, as we would have liked.

Regretful,

—Unquote—

There is still nobody to contact about refund of money paid. Have sent a request for that to my bank and am awaiting communication from them. Couldn’t keep on sitting on the uncomfortable temporary chair, so went ahead and bought one I CAN sit in.

The Office-Chair, part VI

It was too good to be true… I know, it was a fake designer chair, but I could never be able to afford the genuine thing. I know you are not supposed to buy the copies… but if they don’t want us to, set the price for the originals to a more affordable level.

office-chair, charles eames dar, infurn

As it seems, I will not get the office-chair I ordered and paid for in March. Company has disappeared from the face of earth… and gone bankrupt. Got this email on May 27th:

—quote—

Dear Customer

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to you in the past, especially since the beginning of May 2014 regarding your outstanding order.

Unfortunately infurn.com has suffered financial difficulties due to the loss of several business partners from February 2014 onwards.

Please be advised that the group of companies behind the web shop infurn.com have instructed UHY Hacker Young LLP (Turnaround and Recovery Specialists) to review the financial position of the group of companies.

Due to UHY Hacker Young LLP’s review of the financial situation of the group and after discussions with them, it is apparent that the group of companies are insolvent and shall all be entering an insolvency process.

Due to the impending Liquidation of Infurn Limited, the service company of the group which ran the business of customer support, you were not informed of this situation. Infurn Limited ceased trading on 2 May 2014 as they were dependent on funding from the trading company of the group, Livingdesign SL.

We are in the process of instructing lawyers/insolvency experts in Spain with the assistance of UHY Hacker Young LLP to assist with the restructuring of Livingdesign SL.

However, in the meantime, it has been decided that a new operator, DSGN Sales and Support Facilities Limited will take over the web shop (Infurn.com) from 2 May 2014. The purpose of this company is to try to honour all existing customer orders, however at this stage we are unable to confirm our ability to do so.

This company shall not be taking over any of the liabilities of the Infurn.com group and cannot provide any guarantee on delivery times of orders.

We understand our customers? position but we kindly ask you to provide us with time in order to ascertain the level of outstanding orders and whether they can be fulfilled.

You shall be contacted soon with a further update.

Kind regards,

INFURN Group

— end of quote —

Since then, nothing. Website has closed and is no more (it was still up and selling at the time I got this email). No links in the email work. There is now nobody to contact. Googling for the company I came to this page https://kundo.se/org/konsument-europa/d/ar-infurn-ett-blufforetag/ (page is in swedish). So, this is a dead end and there will be no chair.

Chair was supposed to be delivered in mid July.  I threw out the old one in mid May and got a temporary chair. That was OK for the short period from then to mid July when I was supposed to get the new office-chair. It costed just SEK 149… It is not comfortable …it doesn’t hurt my elbows though the way the old chair did as it it doesn’t have any armrests.

officechair, alrik

Temporary office-chair

Now I am left with the choice between these two Ikea office-chairs as I still need an office-chair…. Grey or wild pattern? Probably grey.

office-chair

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

It is NOT FUN to lose the money for the ordered chair though. Am trying to get it back via my bank. Sent in the complaint papers just yesterday.

To be continued.

Added 2014-06-19: Today I got the following email which confirms that there will be no delivery of the order. Still nobody to communicate with…

Colorful black & white

blackandwhite

Photo: ©nini.tjader.2014

Who said that black and white isn’t colorful? I think it is. It all depends on the combination of patterns. And what else is in the vicinity.

In this case the old Ikea Ektorp chaise lounge, two pillow-cases from Ikea (striped and dots), one really cheap pillow (SEK 39) from Ikea, one throw from Ikea, laptop table from Ikea, lamp behind the tulips also from Ikea, and one candle holder from MIO. Even the black and white panda is from Ikea. The floorlamp is also from Ikea, but that is grey. Yes, Ikea is my friend for black and white things.

To me this is colorful.
