Re-oiling the sofatable

This is my sofa table. Emptied in preparation for oiling. It is solid oiled oak. Never re-oiled since I bought it about six years or so ago. It really needed re-oiling. Certain areas over the years got a bit dried out. No stains though (contrary to the kitchen table). That is a wonder as I almost daily eat here in front of the TV, and also have my coffee here. (I know I once had an entire glass of red wine spilled over it… but was quick enough to dry that off).

Wiped it clean and let it dry. As it has to dry after oiling at least 24 hours without using it, I planned it to be done a day before a day when I was not to be at home.

The table is now all oiled, dried and shiny again (below picture). Looks like a new table. Just waiting to be filled with its usual items. It is never this empty… Looks much better than a couple of days ago.

The driest spot was oiled twice. If you know where it was you can still see that the wood is lighter there. But it is good enough. The oil used was bought in a furniture store.

Table is done by HansK  (and really heavy – not something you simply move around…). It is no longer produced or sold. When I choose this table, what was important to me was that it should not have any sharp corners, have a shelf underneath and be solid oak, not veneer. After much looking around, this one fulfilled all my requirement.
