Small change – new chair cushions in the kitchen

I made a small change in the kitchen. Changed the chair cushions. Ikea finally had chair cushions in green. Sometimes a small change like that is enough to change the impression of the room. I’ve been waiting for Ikea to introduce green chair cushions of the model above which I like. It has taken years for them to get green ones…

The Hans Wegner Wishbone Chair

Some chairs become classics. This one for instance. The Wishbone Chair by Hans Wegner. A Danish creation. Its lines are beautiful. It is often called the Y-chair, but its name is the wishbone chair.

Text below from the Carl Hansen & Søn website:

“The Wishbone Chair is perhaps Wegner’s most celebrated work. A light, attractive and comfortable dining chair with the characteristic Y-shaped back. The chair is a triumph of craftsmanship with a simple design and clean lines. Despite the chair’s straightforward appearance it takes more than 100 steps to make one. Amongst other things, the hand-woven seat consists of more than 120 meters of paper cord. Hans J. Wegner designed the Wishbone chair for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1949 and it has been in continuous production since 1950.”

Make sure you watch the video on their site about how the chair is done. Interesting watch. I didn’t for instance know that the material of the seats are paper-cords, hand-woven.

You still see this chair everywhere. Mainly used as a dining-chair. Comes in various colors (and there are lots of replicas out there too). It lives on.

(Every time I see the the name “Wishbone Chair”, I think of a book by Tad Williams called “The Dragonbone Chair”, which has nothing whatsoever to do with this chair…).

Office-chairs continued

Yesterday when I visited Ikea they had finally got one of the new office-chairs assembled so you could test-sit it. So I did. Test sit in it…

I WANT that chair.

It is REALLY comfortable. Just need a cushion to sit on or it feels too cold.

I think I’ve said it before, when I first spotted this chair: it has an air of Bauhaus/Art Deco about it which I love.

The office-chair is called ROBERGET and comes from Ikea. SEK 799/USD 89.99. Apart from the turquoise color, it also comes in dark-grey. But they didn’t have that on show. They have six (6) turquoise ones in store at this very moment in my closest Ikea store when I write this. None of the dark-grey ones. It is the turquoise one I want though. It is fun to have color at least on some things at home.

I would get too many office-chairs if I buy this one… What to do with the present one? Or the very temporary one in red plastic which I had for a short while before that and now is place close by the office corner for use when there is a 2nd viewer in front of the iMac?
