Knossos, Crete - Sir Arthur Evans

Knossos, Crete.

This is a small statue of Sir Arthur Evans, the man who started the excavations of Knossos in 1900 and who is responsible of how the excavation site looks today. It stands in the park where Knossos is today, just at the entrance. It is a rather small bust.Knossos of today is situated just outside Iraklion, the largest town at Crete and the 5th largest town in Greece. A lot of the site today is more or less fake, built up to simulate what Sir Arthur Evans thought it looked like. The most valuable things that have been found there are kept elsewhere and some of the rooms and fresques in the rooms are closed to visitors so they will not be destroyed.
