The Woodpecker

Every spring since I moved to this flat, there is this woodpecker that comes visiting early in the season, stealing peanuts from the smaller birds. I have no idea if it is still the same woodpecker, but it is the same kind anyway. It has become smart. It now knows how to hang in the peanut-feeder.

The other day I just happened to look out one of the kitchen windows and there it was, eating peanuts from the feeder. First I only saw its back tail, then it climbed around so I got a better look. Camera was on the table, so took the below pictures. The woodpecker is early this year. Previous years it has appeared around mid May.

All photos are ©nini.tjader.2014, shot through my dirty window. The outer walls of the building are being painted next week so there is no point in cleaning the windows until they are done with the painting. Estimated time for that is around two weeks, depending on weather conditions.

PS. 2014-04-20 Today there were two woodpeckers. Looked the same both of them. They were both sitting in the mirabelle tree for a while. They always loudly announce their arrival so if you are outside you won’t miss that they are around.
