Dark blue bedroom walls

The change of wall color in the bedroom is now done. All walls are finally painted and not just three of them. The painting came to a halt just before Xmas because of a flue and a then an irritating cough.  But last weekend I did the final wall. I now have dark blue bedroom walls.

The color is the above mix. A dark blue hue that looks different in each angle depending on the light. It replaces the light green melange wall paper which I’ve never liked and planned already before I moved in to change. The green is finally gone.

Painting the fourth wall and corner needed some logistics to move around furniture to get at that last wall and corner. The above “tower” of two Expedit was tricky to move, but I succeeded without anything falling out of it.

Needed to reach that part of the wall behind the sliding doors to the living room for instance. Not that anybody ever sees which color this wall has unless you move the furniture, but I wanted all walls done.

And that corner behind the three wardrobes… Hidden behind the wardrobes are a telephone-connector, a TV-broadband-connection and an electricity output. I use the one for the telephone and the electricity one, but not the one for TV-broadband. I have yet another one like this in the bedroom and another one on the other side of the wall, in the living room.

Fortunately the wardrobes are only 50 cm wide (but 236 cm high) and not attached to each other or the wall (which Ikea thinks they should be). So I only had to push them and they slid nicely over the floor without making any marks on it.

Then it was just regular markup along ceiling and floor etc. and go to work painting. Two layers was enough as the paint is darker than it looks in the pictures. Dries fast. Water-based. Was all finished in the early evening and I could move the furniture back.

I am happy with the result.

Photographed on a sunny day which makes the walls look much lighter than they actually are. I also got light from the big mirror-door reflected on the wall.

One thing that still needs doing here is to exchange the curtain rods. They are presently black, which looks odd toward the dark blue wall. They need to be white. Made a quick trip to Ikea and bought them, but haven’t put them up yet. Will do tomorrow.

It is a relief that the green walls are now gone. I am happy with my dark-blue bedroom walls.

Three walls of four done

Three walls out of four are now painted and done. The painting didn’t take all that much time. The moving around with the furniture and emptying bookcases took much more time.

(Disregard the junk around and on the chest of drawers here. Work still going on in the room.)

I still need to paint the fourth wall behind the three wardrobes an the sliding door. Just pausing with that for a couple of days as it is all almost invisible areas. When done with that I need to fix a couple of dark-blue spots that happened to land in the ceiling… and a couple of spots along the ceiling where the wall-paper tore when I removed the protection tape.

When done with the wall behind the bed, I also finally mounted both the white boxes to get a kind of bedside table. Works fine. The boxes look as if they are of different sizes on the photo below. They are not. They are the same size. Camera making them look like that.

I am happy with the dark-blue walls. Makes the room calm. and I am finally (soon) rid of the military-green wallpaper which I’ve really disliked since I moved in five years ago. Dark walls is THE thing presently.

The iPhone in there is my oldest 3G iPhone. Only use it as a wake-up clock.

Work in Progress – Bedroom Walls

bedroom

Photo: ©nini.tjader

This is how it all begun in the bedroom. Just a couple of weeks after I moved in. I disliked those green walls already before I moved in. I had a 180 cm wide bed at the time. Too big for the room. Drove me nuts every time I made up the bed.

This is the next stage. Bed exchanged for a 120 cm wide one without headboard or bedframe. Wall decorations temporary (to hide the old holes in the wall from the former lamps). Bookcase in corner still in the living room.

Then I changed the decoration on the wall to this one. Noticed already then that it would not be easy to remove it. It takes the wallpaper with it when removing it… Low quality wall-paper…

A week ago I finally removed the wall-decoration. Was really fed up with it. Wall then looked like it got some odd graffiti…

At the same time I also removed the bedframe I bought in June this year, but kept the headboard. For the entire time since I got the bedframe I’ve started each morning by shoving the bed onto the wall and pressing the sides of the bedframe into the headboard and footboard… Bed has felt very unstable, actually to the extent that I was a bit afraid to move in it. It really was not securely fastened together which I noticed when taking it apart. I intend to complain to Ikea. I’ve assembled lots of Ikea furnitures over the years and they have regularly changed the system for how to attached different parts of the furniture to each other. The system they have presently for the Malm bed frame is no good.

I’ve re-attached the legs to the spring mattress and it has also got a black cover. I’ll make go without a bedframe. Bed is now very stable.

As I’ve mentioned before I intend to paint the bedroom walls (all of them) dark blue. So the other day I bought a tiny can with a test-mix of the color I’ve decided on. It has the values above.

I’ve only used it on a limited area – 0.35L paint doesn’t cover that much. It covered the area with the destroyed wallpaper though so I could get an idea how it will look in different light conditions.

Love it. With the white headboard from the bedframe and the other white details in the room I think this color will be fine when all walls get painted. Some friends have had concerns that it is too dark. I have seen plenty of examples of dark colored walls lately though and liked them.

All the walls will get painted eventually. Just have to buy the paint first… And I have to figure out how to move the furniture around to be able to paint all the walls.

Choosing a wall color

colors

Finally picked up some color samples brochures and pieces from the local paint shop on my way home from the gym today. Have been intending to do so for quite some time and today I remembered when I passed by. It is impossible to choose a color from the internet as it might be something totally different in real life than on screen. So I start with these brochures. Then I will probably have to buy a test color and apply on a smallish area to see it for real. It is the bedroom walls I intend to paint. I want to finally get rid of those green walls in the bedroom that I don’t like.

colors

I like these two blue colors. Particularly that one to the right, the darkest of them. Nothing is decided yet. A bucket of paint for about 20 square-meter walls costs about SEK 500 and up, depending on the color-mix. Or one layer of paint for that area. So probably will need 2 buckets as you usually need to paint two layers. Need to measure the walls next so I know the size of the area.

To be continued…
