Naxos This is the "entrance" to the island of Naxos and the town. It is also the symbol of he island and about all that is left – or rather built – as an entrance to a palace to Apollon that was never finished. It is called the Portara entrance and was built in 522 BC. It is all of marble and situated on a small islet just at the side of the harbour in Naxos town.
